Fall Porch Ideas

I probably say this every year but I think I had the most fun this year decorating our porch for Fall.   I do love this time of year and I think it's so fun and festive to see everyone's homes decorated for the Fall season.  But more than anything, some of my most cherished family memories are during the Fall/Halloween season. I think that one of my favorite things about decorating for Fall is that most of the things we use come from nature; hay bales, corn stalks, mums and pumpkins.   It's natural and organic, which I love. If you read my front door post , I told you that I also completely changed our wood screen door.  It has also been painted many colors since we bought it years ago, so I stripped all the paint off with paint stripper, sanded it and stained it. I've had a lot of people ask me where we bought this door and the answer is Lowes.  It had a mahogany colored shellac of some sort on it when we bought it and I didn't care for it so we just ...

Autumn Porch Ideas

Hey there!  We spent the weekend finishing up our front porch and we had so much fun doing it.  We are in the middle of an exciting time (albeit scary) with our shop opening in two weeks (eeekkkk!) and I've been feeling really festive so going all out on the decor was something I really wanted to do this year.  And if you read this post , you know why decorating for fall is so special to me.  So, here's what we did..... We recently replaced our porch swing...

I happen to love Autumn and Halloween.  Some of my most favorite memories with my dad are during Halloween when my children were younger.  He truly enjoyed that day, just like a kid himself.  Hubby and I always spent Halloween at my parents house along with my sister and it was so much fun.  We would take our kiddos trick or treating around the neighborhood with Mom while Dad cooked up a big pot of chili for all of us to enjoy.  Then when the kids were worn out, or maybe we were, we'd walk back to their house to enjoy a warm bowl of chili and it always smelled so good inside.  Warm, welcoming and home, you know? While my youngest never got to meet his Papa, I'm glad his older siblings have those memories and share them with him often.  It's important to me that he know what a kind and fun man his grandpa was.  These days, I make my dad's chili for my family and we create new memories. And while most of our kids are now too old for trick or treatin...
