DIY Vintage Equestrian Feed Sack

Image
I never seem to be quick enough with the auctions on Ebay.  I always lose.  And it's so frustrating, right?  Not so long ago, I missed out on a couple of amazing feed sacks that I really really wanted.  Thought I had them, but lost in the last few seconds, literally.  I couldn't seem to find anymore like them anywhere so I just decided to try making them myself.  It took forever, mainly trying to figure out just the right font to use, and then cutting out all those letters.  But luckily, it's summer and sometimes it's pretty relaxing to sit and cut things out like when we were kids, right?  Here's how I made them..... To start, I washed and bleached a couple of pieces of dropcloth, dried them and laid them out flat to start stenciling on the words and art.  The fonts I used are available for free download on 1001freefonts.com. The font I used for the TRAINERS' CHOICE sack was called Libel Suit. The font used for the word OATS is called Steelf...

Christmas Advent Calendar - DIY

Image
I've always wanted to make my own Advent Calendar and every year I never do.  It seems that whenever I finally have the time, December is half over and it seems kinda silly to make one at that point. But this year, I did it.  And I'm so happy with how it turned out.  It is Pottery Barn inspired and it cost less than $20 to make. After all the pails were dry, I attached numbers to the front with double sided tape.  Here's the printable I used for my numbers.  For some reason there were only 24, so, I found a 25 online that was similar and printed it out as ...

DIY Easel Chalkboard

Image
Hey there!  After receiving several requests, I put together a tutorial of the easel style chalkboard I made for our front porch .  I am certainly no expert at making these and there may be an easier way, however, this is how I did it.  I used inexpensive 1 x 2's and leftover bead board.  You will also need 8 L brackets, two screw eyes, two small hinges and a piece of twine, I used hemp.  Total cost was around $15. Since I already made the larger one for the front porch, I decided to make a smaller tabletop version for the tutorial that I could use in the kitchen or dining room.   Decide on the height and width you'd like to do and then cut your wood based on those measurements.  This one is 23 inches high and 13 1/2 inches wide.  Put your pieces in position to get ready to attach them.  I wanted to make this easy using as few tools as possible, so I attached my pieces with L brackets. Attach all 4 L brackets for each side.  You wil...
